Be a Bike Friendly School

Biking to school is good for students, teachers, and the planet.happyinvests-web.jpg

Students who cycle to school are healthier, more productive, and take fewer sick days. Cycling to school reduces the amount of traffic in drop off zones that pollutes the air and creates a dangerous physical situation for children. Cycling helps students understand their community in a different way than in a car, and let's them get to school emissions-free. Plus, cycling is fun!

HUB offers on-site Bike-friendly School Workshops adaptable to the unique demands of each age level.

What makes a school a Bike-friendly School?

Bike Friendly Schools distinguish themselves in the following bike initiatives and provide leadership for other schools in their efforts to develop bike friendly strategies:

  • Hosting bike events, celebrations and awareness raising
  • Implementing bike education and skill building
  • Installing bike parking for students, staff, parents and visitors
  • Introducing supportive school cycling policies
  • Increasing traffic calming and safe routes around schools
  • Encouraging active participation in events that celebrate cycling culture, such as Bike to School Week.

HUB: Your Cycling Connection has developed Bike-Friendly School Awards. Find out about award levels and how you can apply for your school here.
